So we've been working with our sticker sheets for almost two weeks now. I have to tell you I've seen an
improvement in the kids' habits and behavior. Audie feeds fish without having to be reminded. Dougie actually uses his sock-sorters (
Yay!!!), and
Chloie has been doing better with her task (I won't embarrass her here... not yet ;) ). It seems to be a matter of pride for them to have a page full of stickers!
I was reading the book "1..2..3...Magic" while I was on vacation. The first half talks about using the 1,2,3 method for "Stop behavior" i.e. whinning, tantrums, badgering, etc. The second half of the book discusses "Start behavior" or any task that takes longer than a few minutes. The author talks about various tactics to encourage children to start behavior such as cleaning rooms, homework routines, feeding pets, practicing piano, etc. One of the strategies he enouraged was using charting...WAY TO GO MOM! He listed several other tactics if charting doesn't seem to work with all of your children or its novelty wears off (I've found that what works with one doesn't necissarily work with the others :-( If you need more ideas I highly recommend the book...I actually just finished it last night trying sitting in the hall to get Ben to stay in bed (another issue he addresses). Best of luck...you guys are doing great!
